The Issues: The Economy
Judy believes that our state legislature has a responsibility to create an environment that sets the standard for
business growth and retention. Instead, it is letting our state be portrayed nationwide as having a government
in permanent gridlock with partisan bickering that allows few, if any, legislative accomplishments. Judy’s
view is that responsible leaders would say yes, we can perhaps cut more, but yes, we also need to replace
some of that income.
Judy knows the opportunities are there that will help boost Michigan’s economy. But, without funding for good schools, universities, public safety and job creation, no new businesses will want to make this district their home and existing ones may say there are better deals elsewhere. Judy knows that there is no magic bullet for improving the economy – just tough decisions and a willingness of both parties to work together on solutions that replace lost state revenue. She also is committed to making sure any solution does not put a burden on our low and middle income families, cut funding for services important to communities or further increase the great disparity in quality among our schools. That’s why she is determined to help bring others together to discuss reform and to develop a unified and lasting budget solution that will be a magnet for new businesses and to a better place for families to live and work and prosper.
