The Issues: Protecting Our Farmlands

Protecting Our FarmlandsThe 78th district holds some of the most productive agricultural lands in the world. Only the State of CA produces a more diverse array of farm products. Family farms are a critical piece to our economic future. Judy has always been passionate about protecting the region's agricultural heritage. She is an advocate for practices aimed at greater use of alternative marketing strategies to improve small and mid sized family farming profits including community supported agricultural enterprises and farmers' markets. She also believes that our diverse agricultural industry is a critical piece to our current and future economic success but that it does not attract as much attention as it should. Judy is committed to bringing agriculture and issues of importance to farmers to the forefront. Whether it is providing economic incentives to keep land in agriculture, encouraging continuing education opportunities for farmers and the establishment of an agribusiness curriculum for young people entering the field or funding new farm-based enterprises, Judy knows that practices like these will help contribute in some way to long-term farm profitability, environmental stewardship (including water conservation and protection) and improved quality of life.
